Issue 8 page 5

Lucy Amende Walker writes from Acton Mass. USA

Lucy wrote after seeing a copy of AWN that had been sent to her cousin, Earl. She then sent a family tree.

She confirms that she is always checking telephone books for Amendes when travelling!  She says that Moritz Am Ende came from Saxony in Germany in 1880 and settled in Rockville, Connecticut. His wife Bertha also came from Saxony in the same year with her 6 year old son Robert C. Am Ende who was born in Braunschweig, Germany. Her uncle Albert was severely injured by shell shock in WW1. Uncle Emil is married with 2 children, no details given.

Lucy’s father, Arthur, moved to Rhode Island where he met Grace and they then settled in Providence. Lucy laments the fact that she has not inherited her father’s love opera and musical ability, playing many instruments and singing in the choir. She also heard that the family dropped the “von” prefix during WW2. Until reading AWN she was convinced that this was a made-up story!

Lucy has said that she will contact relatives in Connecticut to get some more details.(Russell Amende also appeared in AWN 1).
